Flag Belts: Feb. 10, 1999 4
The PFFL announces a partnership with a flag belt manufacturer to develop a flag belt with a "Sonic Pop" type belt clasp. This new type of belt will marry the best of the Triple Threat and Sonic Pop flag belt features. While this belt is in its design stage, the PFFL will experiment with "Sonic Pop" belts using three flags instead of the usual two.
Problems arose during the 1998 season with Triple Threat belts falling off without contact. The league used "Sonic Pop" flags in the Canton Pro Flag Bowl games and found them equally lacking because of the visibility factor they imposed on officials who sometimes had long discussions trying to determine the exact spot the player was deflaged. As a result, the league sought to develop a flag belt more suited to the rough play in PFFL games that it would have exclusive usage rights.
Comments on flag belts can be posted on the PFFL message board or by email.
