Cleveland Gibbs

The 1998 PFFL Champs

15 and 1 Regular Season Record

2 and 0 Playoffs

The legendary Cleveland Gibbs team had slipped reluctantly into retirement after the 1995 season. With several national amateur championships under their belt in 9-man, 8-man, 4 on 4 flag football, and 7-man touch, the team seemed content to rest on past accomplishments and let the history book close on possibly the best flag football team ever.

Then in 1998 came the Pro Flag Football League with a whole new challenge.

Mike Cihon, the coach of the the Gibbs team and a former player, called out the troops for one more season, possibly more. All great teams need a quarterback and Gibbs had a great one in Bob Batara, but at age 43, did the QB who had engineered so many of those past victories, have anything left?

The answer came on October 18th, 1998 in Canton, Ohio when Gibbs was crowned 1998 PFFL champs.

Bob Butara had engineered an almost perfect season - going 17 & 1 and earning MVP honors with a win in the first ever Pro Flag Bowl Championship.

The Cleveland Gibbs team has once again established themselves as the best team in flag football.
